Holly Nicole Adams, 29, of Springfield, Missouri died suddenly April 13, 2022. Holly was born in St. Paul, Minnesota on December 11, 1992 to Robert and Tammy (Adams) Bisch. Holly is survived by her mother, Tammy Adams, her brother, Alex Hegel, her sister, Amanda Hegel, grandparents, Edward and Melba Adams, and her Uncle Gary.
Holly had a rare form of muscular dystrophy that limited her physically, but not mentally. If you ever met Holly, I'm sure you'd have a story. Holly had awakened from an unexpected coma in 2013 with a new lease on life and a new attitude. The years in between were always what she considered bonus time. What she did with them was amazing.
Holly was working on a degree in social work and was set to graduate from the University of Missouri at Columbia in the spring. In addition to Mizzou, Holly attended college at the University of North Carolina – Greensboro and Australian Catholic University in Melbourne. While not studying and writing another essay, she volunteered at the National Eating Disorder Association, providing resources for those in need of counseling. She also built an extensive resource database of providers, services, and types of insurance accepted so others might have the information readily available (www.eatingdisordertreatmentblog.com). Holly also counselled over 1500 at risk youth during her time at Crisis Text Line. She helped kids who had been sexually assaulted, kicked out of their homes, or were in danger of self-harm. You can reach them by texting 741741 or chat at www.crisistextline.org 24 hours a day/7 days a week. If that weren't enough, she also wrote letters of encouragement to those who needed it through www.lettersagainstdepression.org. Pre-pandemic, she would coordinate cooking of meals for families at the Ronald McDonald House. With only the use of what she called her "mouse hand" she touched so many lives for the better.
In addition to being an all-around inspiring human, Holly thoroughly enjoyed a good meal, listening to music, medical dramas, and travel. She enrolled in the study abroad program through UNC-G and travelled with her family to Australia for 6 months. She fully understood the risks of encountering a medical emergency over the Pacific and was all in. She made the most of the opportunity, meeting some of the friendliest and truly giving people in the world, encountered some very strange critters, and loved every minute of it.
One of her favorite songs was "I Lived" by OneRepublic, in part:
Hope when you take that jump, you don't fear the fall
Hope when the water rises, you built a wall
Hope when the crowd screams out, it's screaming your name
Hope if everybody runs, you choose to stay
Hope that you fall in love, and it hurts so bad
The only way you can know is give it all you have
And I hope that you don't suffer but take the pain
Hope when the moment comes, you'll say...
I, I did it all
I owned every second that this world could give
I saw so many places, the things that I did
With every broken bone, I swear I lived
Hope that you spend your days, but they all add up
And when that sun goes down, hope you raise your cup
Oh, I wish that I could witness all your joy and all your pain
But until my moment comes, I'll say...
I, I did it all
I owned every second that this world could give
I saw so many places, the things that I did
With every broken bone, I swear I lived
She lived her best life to the fullest. She hopes you do the same. Don't wait for the perfect time, no one knows when your number will come up. Do it now.
