Hugh C. Lovett, Jr., age 72, of Troy, Missouri, passed away on October 18, 2025, after a courageous battle with cancer, which he faced with strength and determination since 2005.
Born on July 25, 1953, in St. Louis, Missouri, Hugh was the son of the late Hugh C. Lovett, Sr. and Genevia (Baltzell) Lovett. On February 24, 2023, he was united in marriage to the love of his life, Rebecca (Binger) Mora, in Crawfordville, Florida.
A lifelong Missourian until retirement, Hugh was a dedicated welder and proud member of Plumbers and Pipefitters Union 562, where he worked faithfully until his retirement in 2015. In 2019, he and Rebecca relocated to Florida, where they embraced the beach lifestyle and the peace of retirement together.
Hugh had a deep love for music. It was more than a hobby-it was his therapy. He enjoyed playing the acoustic guitar. He was also known for his dedication to health and fitness, always staying active and in excellent shape.
Outdoors by nature, Hugh loved gardening alongside Rebecca-they were a team in every sense. While she planted the flowers, he focused on cultivating fruits, vegetables, and trees. Florida's climate allowed them to grow a wide variety of produce year-round, something he truly enjoyed.
Hugh proudly served his country in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War and was honorably discharged on October 23, 1973. His sense of duty and service was something he carried with him throughout his life.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Rebecca, of the home; one daughter, Cassandra (Jim) VanHouten; two sisters, Linda (Joe) Holliday and Rita Lovett, one brother, Scott Lovett; his boy, Rudy and a host of extended family and friends who will deeply miss his presence.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his son, Danny Lovett.
Graveside services with full military honors will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Monday, October 27, 2025, at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery with the Chaplain Scott Tessin officiating.
Hugh's life was a testament to love, strength, and unwavering character. He leaves behind a legacy of hard work, kindness, and a heart that touched many. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
