Hugh R. Pacey, age 85, of Montgomery, Ohio, unexpectedly completed his life's journey on September 15, 2025.
He was the beloved husband of Nancy (Lysaght) for 62 years. A devoted father to John (Robin), who preceded him in death, and to his daughters Robin and Jennifer (Chad). He was known as "Gampi" to his grandchildren Sam (Grace), Casey (Marc), Tyler, and Sean (Rachael), and "Great Gampi" to his great-grandsons Grayson and Gavin. Hugh was the brother of the late Jane, and is survived by his youngest sister, Mary.
Hugh was born on June 29, 1940, in Albany, New York, and grew up on the East Coast. He attended Ohio University, where he earned his bachelor's degree-and where he also met the love of his life, Nancy. He later received his master's degree from Xavier University. After college, Hugh and Nancy settled in Cincinnati, where they built a life together.
Hugh began his career teaching and coaching in the Sycamore School District. Several years later, he moved into administration at the Greenhills-Forest Park School District. He retired from education in 1993 but went on to work for Martin Public Seating. He promised Nancy he would only continue to work for five more years, but instead he worked for nineteen additional years!
Hugh and Nancy also cherished their time in Florida, where they made many new and wonderful friends.
Those who knew Hugh will remember his deep love for family, being the dog whisperer, his dry sense of humor, strong work ethic, and his legendary blueberry garden. He was a loyal friend, a frequent visitor of Cracker Barrel and Bob Evans, and a proud veteran who served his country in the U.S. Army Reserve.
Family and friends are invited to a visitation on Thursday, September 18, from 12:30 to 3:00 p.m. at the Norman Chapel in Spring Grove Cemetery. A private family service will precede the visitation. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Hugh's memory.
