January 13, 2022, at age 98. Hy grew up in Linden, NJ; graduated from Linden High and soon was invited to join Uncle Sam. Completed Basic Training in Ft. Eustis, VA., and later transferred to Virginia Polytech for Intense Study in the German language; upon completion was sent to the University of PA for further Intense Study in German.

Hy lived in England for many months before heading to Omaha Beach on June 6, 1944. Crossed France and ultimately landed in Germany where his work as an Interpreter began. He soon found himself involved in the Battle of the Bulge until the end of the war. Recently, Hy was appointed Knight in the Order of the Legion of Honor by the President of the French Republic. This distinction was an expression of appreciation and gratitude that the French people had for his contributions to the liberation of France during World War II.

Upon his return home, he worked in NYC for several years and then was invited to come to Rochester by the Federal Court. A few years later he was asked to come to work with a newly elected Supreme Court Justice, where he remained until retirement in June 1981.

While working in NYC, he attended NY University evenings, where he was awarded his Bachelor of Science degree, cum laude, with a major in German Language & Studies. Later he received his Master of Arts Degree, with a major in Anthropology, with the Founders' Day Certificate.

Hy worked for several years with a small group that eventually founded The Geva Theatre, where he continued to volunteer for 40 more years. Hy was pre-deceased by his parents, three brothers, and his sister. His three brothers served in the Navy.

Funeral Services will take place in AZ. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Jewish Community Center, 1600 Edgewood Ave, Rochester, NY 14618, Hy's favorite hangout.
