Irene Ellen Clopper, 85, of Clear Spring, MD, passed away, Wednesday, February 19, 2025, at her home.
Born Friday, September 22, 1939, in Stillwater, MN, she was the daughter of the late M. Ivan Nelson and the late Edna Irene (Marshall) Nelson. She was also preceded in death by her husband John Edward Clopper, Sr.
Irene graduated from Alexander Ramsey High School in 1957 and later attended St. Cloud State University in St. Cloud, MN. She was employed at Sears and later Suburban Trust Bank, where she was the Head Teller. Along with her late husband John they owned and operated a 7 Eleven in Seat Pleasant, MD and C&R Liquors and Dairy Queen both in Hagerstown, MD. She was treasurer for the Beaver Creek and Williamsport Lions Club, statistician for Jefferson Heights Bowling League and a member of the Wilson Ruritan. Irene was a member of Evangel Baptist Church, where she served as the treasurer for the Shunammite Ladies. Irene's greatest joy was spending time with her family.
She is survived by her son Marty H. (Barbara) Kending, and daughter, Ellen M. Hudson, daughter, Karen M. Gonzalez, daughter, Crystal A. Bono.
She is also survived by 17 grandchildren John Jr's children are John Clopper, III, Jenny Nickerson (Collin), and Joey Clopper, Danny's child is Dan Kending, Robert's children are Monique Airasian (Andrew), Kristen Troupis (Andrew), William McCracken (Nicole), Robert "Bobby" Clopper, Jr. (Vivian), and Keren Guptill (Jesse), Ellen's children are Melanie Snyder (Jeff), Brian Hudson (Jamie), Deanna Izer (Dillan), and Kaitlyn Hudson, Marty's child is Kyle Toms (Kelli), and Crystal's children are Crystal Lacerda (Raphael), Cyndi Scenna (Matt) and Christopher Bona, Karen's child (Dina Clopper, granddaughter-in-law)
Also surviving are her 39 great-grandchildren. Gregg's children are Brooke and Maddie Clopper, John III's children are John Clopper, IV and Ian Clopper, Joey's children are Shiane and Joseph Clopper, Jenny's children are Beaux and Lennox Nickerson. Dan's children are Trinity, Pheonix, Jaxen, Kolten, and Ellie Kending, Monique's children are Andy and Gus Airasian, William's children are Leah McCraken, Trinitee and Shyanne Tomlensen, Robert's children are Ethan and Victoria Clopper. Keren's children are Adrianna and Austin Guptill. Melanie's children are Lucas, Abigayle and Aaron Snyder, Brian's children are Morghann and Skyler Culp, Bobby, Emily, Lexi, Wyatt, and Levi Hudson, Deanna's children are Waylon, Ruby, and Scarlett Izer. Kyle's child is Carson Toms. Crystal L.'s children are Ayden and Gabriel Lacerda. Cyndi child is Ivan Scenna.
As well as 3 great-great grandchildren, Trinity's children are Dee Dee and Emerson Kending. John IV's child is Carrie Clopper.
She was also preceded in death by her sons, Daniel J. Kending, John E. Clopper, Jr. and Robert A. Clopper, Sr., brothers, Martin I. Nelson and Leroy M. Nelson, son-in-law Robert S. Hudson Jr., grandchild, Gregg L. Clopper and great-grandchild, Roan C. Izer.
Services will be held Friday, February 28, 2025, at 11:00 am, at Evangel Baptist Church, 17922 Broadfording Rd. Hagerstown, MD, with Pastor Ron Faith officiating.
Family will receive friends at the Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home 1331 Eastern Blvd. North, Hagerstown, MD on Thursday, February 27, 2025 from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm.
Private interment will be at the St. Paul's Cemetery, Clear Spring, MD.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Evangel Baptist Church or the Williamsport Lions Club.
