J.R. Breckenridge entered eternal rest on Tuesday, December 17, 2024 at the age of 77.
Devoted husband of Barb Breckenridge; loving father of Marc (Carmen) Breckenridge and Beth (John) Miller; dear grandfather of Madalyn Breckenridge, Jillian Breckenridge, Brecken Miller, Colin Miller, and Evan Miller; cherished son of the late Robert and Esther Breckenridge; admired brother of Tom (Peggy) Breckenridge and Debbie (Ron) Breckenridge; beloved son-in-law of Harlan Hellrich; brother-in-law, uncle, teacher, coach, teammate, opponent, and friend to many.
J.R. attended Duchesne High School, graduating in 1966, where he then went on to Northeast Missouri State Teachers College in Kirksville, MO. He taught at Fort Zumwalt North Middle School for 30 years, where he impacted countless students and athletes. During his time J.R. coached Football, Basketball, Tennis, Wrestling, Softball and Track. Coach Breckenridge thrived on teaching the fundamentals to young athletes.
An avid slow-pitch softball player, J.R. represented St. Peter Church and the Knights of Columbus Post 823 throughout the years. After retirement J.R. took up golf, which he had said he would never do because it was "too easy".
J.R. spent his time watching his 5 grandchildren play sports – a fixture in the stands and on the sidelines. Fridays were reserved for his wife of 53 years; a movie, lunch, shopping and the casino were the usual activities.
J.R. could talk to anyone and had a story for everything – he will be remembered for his quick wit, easy smile and love for his friends and family.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation or Children's Hospital - St. Louis.

JR and I were high school buddies who played basketball and softball together. We spent many a day together at his or my house. Sorry I will miss his services as I am out of town for the holidays; but rest assured JR will be in my prayers. May he rest in peace. My condolences to Barb and family.
