Jack Schult Obituary
A proud graduate of Lafayette Jefferson High School in 1956, Jack continued his education at Purdue University, earning both his Bachelors and Master of Science degrees. His passion for youth education led him to serve the Lafayette Jefferson School System for an incredible 50 years, where he was the Department Head of Health and Physical Education for 36 years and Assistant Athletic Director for 20 years.
A coach at heart, Jack guided countless student-athletes to success. He led the 1975 Boys Tennis team to a State Championship and a runner-up finish in 1976. He also played a pivotal role as an assistant coach for Lafayette Jefferson's 1964 Boys Basketball State Champions, the 1967 Boys Football State Champions, and the 1973 Boys Baseball State Champions. His impact on Indiana athletics was recognized with his induction into the Indiana Tennis Hall of Fame in 1998 and the Lafayette Jefferson High School Hall of Fame in 2013. In 2017, he was honored with the Distinguished Hoosier Award from Governor Eric Holcomb.
Beyond his contributions to education and sports, Jack was a devoted member of the John Purdue Club, Purdue Alumni Association, Lafayette Jeff Boosters Club, the Lafayette Country Club, and the Boys & Girls Club of America, where he served as president in 2007.
Jack enjoyed collecting antique memorabilia, meeting his friends for a round of golf, and was an ardent fan of Frank Sinatra. He also had a unique connection to Hollywood, appearing as an extra in films such as Hoosiers, 8 Men Out.
He is survived by his loving wife, R. Susan (Harris), and his daughter, Jacqueline Sue (Joshua) Miller.
Jack's legacy will live on through the many lives he touched as a teacher, coach, and mentor. His dedication, wisdom, and passion for life will never be forgotten.
Visitation will be from 9:00 am until the time of the Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am on Tuesday, November 4, 2025, at Saint Boniface Catholic Church in Lafayette. Interment will be at St. Mary Cemetery in Lafayette. In loving memory of Jack E. Schult, donations may be made to St. Boniface Catholic Church or the Boys and Girls Club of Lafayette. I was in one of Mr Schultz classes. I remember him being super excited that he was in the movie Hoosiers and Eight Men Out. I also remember him being super Goofy during class. He usually put a smile on my face.

From your 1975 State Tennis Championship Team, thank you for believing in a group of young kids. Coach motivated us to believe we could be the David against the Goliath North Central High School. North Central was the powerhouse in tennis for most of the 1970's.
I was able to visit Coach a few months ago and thanked him again for being such a powerful influence in my life. Coach just waived it off, never one to take credit for his footprint he has left.
Thank you to his wife and daughter for sharing him with us.
Coach, you are a champion.

Jack, you will be missed. Our family had a lot of good memories of Purdue football games, all Jeff sports as well as Central Catholic games. Too many of our people are gone and it is getting lonely around here. But my brother and my dad will celebrate your arrival in the heavenly sports arenas. RIP
