Jacob M. "Jake" Robinson

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Jacob "Jake" M. Robinson, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and dedicated community member, who departed this life on June 9, 2024, at Liza's Place in Wheeling, WV, at the age of 80.
Born in Wheeling, WV, on July 20, 1943, Jake grew up in a close-knit community that he would go on to serve diligently throughout his life. He graduated from Wheeling High School in 1961, went on to earn a degree from Marshall University in 1965, and completed his legal studies at the West Virginia University College of Law in 1968. While at the WVU, he was one of the few students selected to serve as an editor for the Law Review.
Upon returning to Wheeling he worked for the firm of Riley & Yahn before branching out to form John, Joel & Robinson that later became Robinson & Dickinson, he then formed Robinson Law Offices where he practiced for over 30 years until the time of his passing. He also worked as an Assistant Prosecuting Attorney for Ohio County and as an adjunct faculty member at West Liberty University. Over his 56 year legal career he represented more than 5,000 individuals and families, trying countless civil and criminal cases to verdict in state and federal courts.
Jake was known for his unassuming yet brilliant legal mind and quickly became a well-respected figure in the community. Despite his casual appearance and demeanor, his commitment to justice and his clients never wavered. Among his many professional affiliations, Jake was a past president of the Ohio County Bar Association and an esteemed member of the WV Trial Lawyers Association.
Outside of his professional life, Jake thoroughly enjoyed spending his leisurely time at the Wheeling Island Hotel-Casino-Racetrack. He was also an active participant in numerous social organizations, including the Wheeling Elks Lodge #28, the IOLA Club, the Cave Club, and the Circus Saints & Sinners.
Jake is survived by his wife, Dottie (Smith) Robinson; his sons, Bryan (Jennifer) Robinson, David Robinson, Jacob (Bobbi) Robinson, Jr., and Brent (Jayla) Robinson; and his cherished grandchildren, Cecelia, Benjamin, Sarah, Jacob III, Elli, Zachary, Hadley, Brecken, and Briggs. His presence will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
