James C. Conover, 86, Mooresville, passed away on August 1, 2024, at his residence. Mr. Conover was born in Edmonton, Kentucky on March 5, 1938, to the late Willis and Helen (Melson) Conover. He met a young lady, Betty Sawyers, in high school, and the two were married by his grandfather on July 16, 1955. Betty survives. 

Jim attended Martinsville High School and proudly served in the United States Army and later the Army Reserves. He worked for the former J & L Steel, now Cold Metal Products, for 30 years, retiring in 1998 as the maintenance supervisor. Following his retirement, he worked with the Morgan County Highway Department as a mower for ten years. 

Jim attended the Brooklyn Church of Christ. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and was an accomplished woodworker. He and Betty were members of the Flagtown Steppers Square Dance Club, the Indiana Field Archery Association, the National Field Archery Association, and the White Lick Field Archery Association. Together they were awarded the Sportsmanship Award by the Indiana Association and the Medal Merit Award by the National Association. They traveled extensively to 49 United States and Canada. Jim loved to take in the natural wonders of God’s creation. Jim will be fondly remembered for his strong devotion to his wife and family, his considerate nature, and his friendly personality. 

In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by a daughter, Rhonda Sue Newlin, and a brother, Glenn Conover. 

Survivors include his loving wife of 69 years, Betty; daughters, Brenda (Roger) Burton, Sharon (Shane Brenner) McFarland, and Patricia (Darryl) Pletcher; grandchildren, Justin, Benjamin, Michael, Kelly, Bobby, Richard, Shawntel, Teresa, and Julie; eleven great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren. 

Jim’s Life Celebration® Visitation and Funeral Service will be held at the Carlisle – Branson Funeral Service & Crematory, 39 East High Street, Mooresville. Visitation will be on Monday, August 5, 2024, 5 to 8 p.m. The funeral service will begin at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, August 6, 2024. Entombment will be in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens, Greenwood.
