Dr. James Jerome Farrell, 93, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Friday, May 2, 2025.
Born and raised in Binghamton, New York, James, affectionately known as Jim, was a dedicated and compassionate individual whose life was marked by service, faith, and love for his community. He graduated from the University of Pennsylvania, where he completed both his undergraduate studies and dental school. His commitment to serving others was evident early on, as he served in the U.S. Army, providing dental care at a clinic in Texas during the Korean War.
Dr. Farrell returned to Binghamton to establish a dental practice with his brothers, a venture that later expanded to include his son. His patients adored him, and he reciprocated their affection with unwavering dedication. His professional excellence was recognized through his induction into the American College of Dentistry and his tenure in multiple leadership roles in the county and state dental societies. He was also involved with Broome Technical Community College as a board member, clinical supervisor and teacher for the dental hygiene students.
A man of profound faith, Jim held a special devotion to the Blessed Mary. He was a founding member of the St. Vincent de Paul Rosary Group, where he joyfully shared his faith with others. His spiritual life was a cornerstone of his identity, influencing his interactions and relationships.
Jim cherished time spent at the beach, creating lasting memories with family in Margate and Avalon, NJ, and enjoying the warmth of winters in Clearwater Beach, Florida. An active and vibrant individual, he found joy in many sports – particularly paddle tennis and golf, embodying a spirit of vitality and enthusiasm.
Preceded in death by his parents, John and Irma Farrell, his four brothers (John, Robert, Donald and Thomas) and his beloved son, Dr. Scott Farrell. Jim leaves behind a legacy of love and kindness. He is survived by his devoted wife, Dolores (Dee); his daughter, Michelle; his cherished grandchildren, Jacob, Joshua, Meghan and Brendan; two great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
A Funeral Mass will be offered at St. Vincent de Paul Blessed Sacrament Church, Clubhouse Road, Vestal, Monday May 19, 2025 at 10:30 a.m. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Johnson City.
