James Johnson Hall, born July 28, 1934, the first dog day of summer, with a mind like a steel trap, passed away August 8, 2022 after a decades long battle with Parkinson's disease. He was preceded in death by three infant daughters and by his beloved wife, Annette Conner Hall. Mr. Hall was survived by three sons, Clayton A. Hall (Sara), Jay A. Hall (Melissa) and Christopher C. Hall. Mr. Hall was also survived by four grandchildren, James A. Hall, II, Preston J. Hall, Taylor A. Hall and Annslin S. Hall.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, August 10, 2022 at Clark Funeral Home with Rev. Maggie Bloodworth, Ernest Mashburn and Marvin Peavy officiating, with a visitation held prior to the service at 1:00 pm. Burial will be in the family plot at Orange Hill Cemetery and will be private.
Mr. Hall was born in and lived all of his life in Pulaski County, Georgia, having been born to James Ashley Hall and Lucille Johnson Hall, whom preceded him in death. He graduated from Hawkinsville High School, with the classmates he loved and adored, in 1952 and later from the University of Georgia and Mercer University School of Law. Mr. Hall drove daily from Hawkinsville to Macon to attend law school all the while raising his sons and serving the City of Hawkinsville as a Commissioner for what would become 16 years. He began law practice in 1970 in Hawkinsville and remained an active member of the State Bar of Georgia until his death. He was widely known and admired for his encyclopedic knowledge of real estate law and real estate of Pulaski County. He will be missed and remembered by his peers.
Always civic minded, in addition to his service as a Hawkinsville City Commissioner, he served decades as Pulaski County Attorney and many years as the attorney for the Pulaski County Board of Education. Among his many efforts on behalf of the citizens of Hawkinsville and Pulaski County, he served as chairman of the Heart of Georgia Area Planning and Development Commission and the Jointly Owned Natural Gas Transmission Line.
When not caring for his many friends and clients, he enjoyed taking trips with his family to St. Petersburg Beach and to Lake Blackshear. He drove his Volkswagen "The Thing" with his dogs King and Queen. An accomplished boat driver, he enjoyed pulling his sons and their friends water skiing. Later, he enjoyed trips to The Gibson Inn in Apalachicola, Florida, where he and his wife Annette, were on the cover of the brochure.
Mr. Hall believed you must be a friend to have a friend and he leaves behind his great friends, to whom he was closer to than any brother, Ronnie Fleeman and Ernest Mashburn, Jr. He was predeceased by his college classmate and great friend Andrew Cabero.
The family wishes to thank their father's dedicated and loving sitters Angie Bryant and Tomeka "BayBay" Jenkins for their loving devotion, care and kindness and his favorite secretary Amy. Also, the family wishes to thank Brenda Wright and Jamie Chamberlain, of Agape Hospice, for their loving care especially over the last few months.
Last but certainly not least, the family wishes to thank Ms. Vera Roberts for being the most special friend our father could have had. Her care and affection will forever be remembered.
