James Thomas Holloway, of Kingston, formerly of Charlestown and Braintree, passed away peacefully in his sleep on November 10, 2025, with his family by his side, at the age of 86. Born in Boston, Massachusetts on May 25, 1939, to the late James W. Holloway and Mildred Holloway, James was raised in Charlestown. He attended Charlestown High School and joined the navy immediately following school. It was during this period where he and Beverly started dating and eventually married, beginning a loving partnership that would last more than sixty years. His career was in electrical engineering, that included work for NASA that contributed to many of the programs that put astronauts and their equipment into space. His work required them to move around frequently, including Alabama and Texas, and they eventually settled in Braintree with their four children. After a long career and much travel, James retired in 1993, devoting more of his time to home and family.
James and Beverly loved spending time with friends and family, and hosted many holidays and gatherings at their homes, both in Braintree and Kingston. James was a keen sailor, and he and Beverly spent many years sailing the waters of New England with their friends and family. They had a yearly tradition of a family camping trip to Lake Sebago in Maine, which was a highlight for the kids and grandkids, and all of the family's initials are carved into a beam that is still there today. James and Beverly also enjoyed skiing, and for many years rented a cabin near Waterville Valley in New Hampshire, where both their children and grandchildren learned to ski (or snowboard). James was a great teller of stories, and he shared many cherished memories with his family that will be treasured, always. He was a loving husband, a devoted father, a doting grandfather and great-grandfather, and a man of generous nature and good heart. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him, as Dad, Papa, friend, or Jimmy, as his beloved Beverly called him.
Beloved husband of Beverly "Buddy" Holloway. Devoted father of Tami Holloway of Newport, James "Craig" Holloway of Fall River, Todd Holloway and his wife Karine Pottier-Holloway of Weymouth, and Christopher Holloway of Kingston. Loving brother of William Holloway, Thomas Holloway and the late Pat Alberti. Treasured Papa to Allen Florindo Jr., the late James "Jimmy" Holloway, Chelsea Vangel and her husband Wesley Vangel, Dylan Holloway, Tyler Holloway and his wife Emily Smith, Alexis Holloway, and Matthieu Holloway. Adoring great-grandfather to Brendan Holloway, Kennedy Vangel, and Eloise Vangel.
Friends and family are invited to attend visiting hours on Monday, December 1st, from 4:00-8:00 PM at the Cartwright-Venuti Funeral Home, 845 Washington Street in Braintree. A funeral mass will be held the following day on December 2nd at 10:00 AM at St. Francis of Assisi Church in Braintree. Burial will take place on December 3rd, at 12:45 PM in the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne.
