Jim Johnson Jr., 68, of Ogden UT, passed away on July 27, 2025, after a long battle with cancer.
Jim was born on June 15, 1957, to James J. Johnson and Ruby Wauneka-Johnson in Brigham City, UT. After Jim graduated from Box Elder, he went on to study at Weber State University with a scholarship from playing the trombone in the Box Elder High School band. He earned a scholarship from the National Coca-Cola Bowling tournament that led him to compete in California.
After pursuing his education, he started working at the Intermountain Indian school in Brigham City. After the closing of the school, he started at the IRS, completing a 40-year IT career, retiring on May 31, 2025.
In 1979, Jim met Dolly while they were both working at the Intermountain Indian School. Jim welcomed Dolly's two children from a previous marriage as his own and they went on to have 2 more children. Altogether, their children are: Dorothy Ann Dallas, Jarvis Toby Dallas, James BearHand Johnson, and Jacqueline Ruby Johnson. Jim and Dolly were together for 46 wonderful years and Jim was grateful for every second with Dolly in his life. Jim and Dolly were blessed with 6 grandchildren: Dayton James Nasafotie, Dahlia Ann House, Seyukpi James Johnson, Aiden James Dallas, Zoe Harley Johnson, and Azalea Wilda-Louise Bond.
Jim's passion in life was bowling. He started when he was 13 after his mom passed. Jim's dad introduced him to bowling with the encouragement of his friends. After bowling every Friday night, he started to develop his skills. In 2001, Jim was inducted into the Northern Utah bowling Hall of Fame. He was proud of himself as he accomplished this achievement at the age of 43. In his lifetime, Jim bowled over thirteen 300 games and three 800 series.
Jim has said his biggest accomplishment was raising his family. He was very proud of them all. Some of his greatest joys were watching his grandchildren grow up and spending time with them. He enjoyed coaching his grandchildren in bowling and seeing them develop their skills.
Jim was predeceased by his parents, James and Ruby Wauneka-Johnson, sister Sharlene Johnson-Antone, and grandson Dayton Nasafotie. He is survived by his wife, Dolly Johnson, his sister, Valerie Johnson, and four children: Dorothy House (Darrell), Jarvis Dallas (Cassandra), BearHand Johnson (Angela), and Jacqueline Bond (Anthony); five grandchildren: Dahlia, Seyukpi, Aiden, Zoe, and Azalea; with additional grandchildren by marriage: Antonia "Princess", Riley, and Destry. Jim also loved animals and enjoyed his great "grandkids": Cole, Meeko, Beetle, Brownie, Thomas, Sheik, Lola, Midna, Moosah, Ute, and Kwang.
From the words of his best friend, "Never in my life have I met a man who loved and cared for his family more than Jimmy."
The family will have a celebration of life at the end of August/early September. Information about the event will be announced later.
