James (Jimmy) Massey, 70, of Yalaha passed away March 26, 2025 after a courageous battle with cancer and Parkinson's Disease.
Born May 27, 1954, in Riverdale, MD, he was the son of Julius and Anne (Meyers) Massey. He graduated from Evans High School in Orlando, FL. On 7/27/1979 he enlisted in the U.S. Air Forces and served until he retired after 20 years of honorable service on May 27, 2014 as an MSC Officer. On top of many other medals, Jim was awarded the Southwest Asia Service Medal (SWASM) for service in Operations Desert Storm and Desert Shield and the National Defense Medal.
On September 25, 1987, in Oxford, FL he married his soul mate, Marie (Beth) McCormic Massey, whose love will never die.
Jimmy was member of the Church of the Lakes in Leesburg, Florida. He and Beth participated in the development of "The Rock", a Leesburg High School program. They built cabinets to house students' personal equipment and supplies and painted walls with other Church of the Lake members.
After service to his country, Jimmy began a successful career in Health Care. Beginning in Maintenance and working up the ladder to understand every aspect of the healthcare industry. James later retired as COO of FutureCare Health Management Corporation. With 15 Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing centers across the Baltimore/Washington area Jimmy enjoyed his greatest success -- managing a team that made a difference in the industry. For all his efforts, Jimmy was admired and respected by everyone who worked with him and for him
Yes, Jimmy excelled at everything he did. Remodeling homes with Beth, plumbing, electrical, HVAC - there wasn't anything he would not tackle. Building motorcycles, easy. Boating, sailing, and living on the water, shared tranquility. He will forever be remembered for his love of music, his amazing recall of bands, movies, actors, his gentle spirit and infectious laugh, his love of all things sweet and sushi.
Surviving is his wife, Beth; twin sons: Patrick (Stacey) Massey of Shreveport, Louisiana and Jason (Megan) Massey of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; 5 grandchildren, James, Connor, Benjamin, Mary, and Anne, and many bonus grandchildren. Two sisters Delores (Edward Calvo) Ferguson of Pella, Iowa, Jennifer Massey, and one brother Duwayne (Chris) Massey of New Port Richey, Florida.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Raymond Massey.
Funeral services will be held at Florida National Cemetery on Friday, April 11, 2025, at 10:30 AM. Following the services, there will be a celebration of Jimmy's life for family only at Mission Inn Resort, Howey-in-the-Hills, Florida.
Arrangements entrusted to Beyers Funeral Home of Leesburg, Florida.

I can´t say that I knew Jim very well when we served together as crew members in the Air Force. But he made an impression on one; good-natured with a gentle sense of humor. My deepest sympathy for your loss.

I was stationed with Jimmy and Lynda and he introduced me to his fellow crewmember and friend that would become my husband. We had many happy times and I remember his boys when they were born. To his children and grandchildren, please accept my condolences - I hope that it helps knowing that his was a life well lived.

While we didn't know each other personally, we live nearby and went to the same High School. My thoughts and prayers are with your family over your recent loss.

We were stationed together at Blytheville AFB, Arkansas. I was in Aircrew Life Support taking care of his helmet and oxygen mask as he was a flight crew member . It was my honor to serve my Country and to know Jimmy and Lynda Massey. He made everyone feel important. He is going on to prepare a place for us. All of us who believe. I am half way there. See you later my friend.
