James McGoldrick Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Joseph J. McGoldrick Funeral Home, Inc. - Jenkintown on Aug. 23, 2025.

Publish in a newspaper

James E. McGoldrick, of Warrington, PA, formerly of Jenkintown and Hatboro, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, on Thursday, August 21, 2025.

Jim was born in Abington, PA on January 8, 1955, a devoted son of the late Delores E. (Seket) and Joseph J. McGoldrick.

Jim was the beloved brother of Joseph (Alma), Robert, Thomas (Terry), William (Nancy), Anne Marie Lawrence (Gary), and Kathleen Spencer (Steve). As the youngest of the 5 boys, Jim (lovingly known as "Shamus") knew the ins and outs of little league baseball long before he became the multi position player on the Upper Moreland Bank of Old York Road team that won the National League title. Jim went on to be an outstanding third baseman for the Archbishop Wood High School baseball team and then to Villanova making the team as a walk-on. Jim's love for baseball continued throughout his life- although he was known to bemoan the Phillies along with the best of fans!

Jim is a 1972 graduate of Archbishop Wood, making friendships there that have continued throughout his life. Softball, golf outings (especially the "Tunky Open"), and betting pools for the big games and the Masters were the norm. The weekly "meeting" of the Thursday Night Guys at a local establishment began in 1974 and continues to this day.

Weekends and vacations at the shore led to co-ownership of a Sea Isle City home with Charlie and Becky Bisset. The seaside stories of these days cannot be told on this website- but they are worth sharing a beer to hear!

Jim is the beloved uncle of 15 nieces and nephews and numerous great and grands. A trip to Mom Mom and Pop Pop's for Sunday night roast beef dinners with the family always meant a laugh filed time with Uncle Jimmy, ping pong in the parlor and the inevitable "Palm Tree Crush". Christmas parties at the Funeral Home with visits from Santa are treasured memories. The kids "knew" Uncle Jim was Santa- until one holiday he "wasn't"- which stumped them all!

A 1976 degree in business and finance from Villanova led Jim to his career in computer science. His first job at Burroughs brought friendships and memories- and a solid foundation in tech services and programming. Moving to PDS in 2001, Jim worked in a research development group with the main focus of tax compliance with both the US and Canadian annual tax laws. Being a problem solver and "sleuth" Jim was an excellent resource for the technical and application support teams. Co-workers describe Jim as a "master" – working his magic to make these old systems, written in Cobol, work appropriately.

Music from the Big Band Era filled a lot of Jim's hours, The Sounds of Sinatra with Sid Mark talk radio consumed weekend mornings. He could quickly and easily come up with a line from a Dylan song or a 40's swing number. Jim "played" the sax in the Guys air instrument band- bringing laughs whenever they "performed" at family parties. Quotes from old movies and TV classics led us all to believe that Jim was indeed born again. His sense of humor and quick wit are his hallmark.

Memories and stories of Jim portray his deep devotion to his family. Jim was always there for us, being a patient, understanding, listener. His generosity demonstrates his unselfish love for all who were in his circle.

His strong desire to get well so that he could be with us all was truly the driving source that motivated Jim during his prolonged fight to win this battle with his health. Jim, we hope you know how much you were loved by so many. You indeed will be missed.

Relatives and friends are invited to his visitation Wednesday, August 27th from 6-8 PM at the Joseph J. McGoldrick Funeral Home 507 West Ave. Jenkintown, PA. A second visitation will be held Thursday, August 28th from 9-10:15 AM at Immaculate Conception BVM Church 604 West Ave. Jenkintown, PA followed by his funeral Mass at 10:30 AM. His interment will be held at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Phila., PA.
