James E. Runkle, 79, of Peoria, passed away at 12:20 a.m. Thursday, January 23, 2025 at Carle Methodist Hospital in Peoria.
Born May 2, 1945 in Rushville to George and Jeanne (Waugh) Runkle, he married Marcia "Marcey" McGuire on August 20, 1966 in Chicago. She survives of Peoria.
Also surviving are two sons, Scott (Christine) Runkle of Mt. Prospect and Josh (Amy) Runkle of Highland Park; four grandchildren, Paige, Brooke, Kyle and Ellie; one brother, Tim Runkle of Morton and one sister, Sue Blasco of Peoria.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his daughter, Jayme and two brothers.
Jim had worked as a teacher from 1969 to 2002, first teaching at Glenbrook North and then later for Woodruff High School in Peoria. He also served as the coach of the swimming team at both schools and coached swimming for the Peoria Country Club for many years.
His memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, January 30, 2025 at Wright & Salmon Mortuary in Peoria. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, January 29, 2025 at the mortuary. Additional visitation will be thirty minutes prior to the service on Thursday. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery.
