It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of James R. "Jimmy" Towe, fondly known as "Coach," on August 12, 2024, in Seneca SC. Born on October 28, 1960 in Pickens, SC, Coach Towe leaves behind a legacy that will be forever and cherished by his family, friends, and the community served.

Coach Towe dedicated his life to education and athletics, leaving an indelible mark on the students and athletes he mentored throughout his career. He started his journey by graduating from D.W. Daniel High School and later from Lander College, solidifying his commitment to learning and personal growth.

His passion for teaching led him to specialize in Special Education and Driver's Education, both in high school settings and at Piedmont Technical College in Greenwood, SC. Coach Towe's influence extended beyond the classroom as he took on various coaching roles that showcased his leadership and dedication to his craft.

From his tenure as an Assistant Football Coach at Ninety-Six High School to his illustrious time as the Head Football Coach and Athletic Director at Calhoun Falls High School, Coach Towe's impact was profound. He holds the esteemed title of being the winningest Football Coach in Calhoun Falls High School history, with 89 victories and an impressive average of over 8 wins per season.

In addition to football, Coach Towe's expertise shone in other sports as well. He excelled as the Boys' Head Basketball Coach and guided both the Girls' and Boys' Track teams at Calhoun Falls to remarkable success, boasting multiple conference championships and individual state champions under his tutelage.

Throughout his career, Coach Towe received numerous accolades, being named Conference Coach of the Year in football, boys' basketball, and boys' and girls' track a remarkable 16 times. His dedication to his students and athletes went beyond the playing field, as he also drove school buses and Champion buses for various teams, ensuring their safety and support.

Coach Towe's love for coaching continued as he took on roles at Greenwood High School, Seneca High School, and Woodmont High School, showcasing his versatility and commitment to nurturing young talents.

In his passing, Coach Towe is survived by his sisters: Martha (Ron) Newton of Clemson, SC, Wanda Huggins of Anderson, SC, and Deborah (Bob) Dukes of Six Mile, SC; brother-in-law, Alvin Emerson of Seneca, SC. He is preceded in death by his father, Rev. James Ray Towe, and mother, Helen Duncan Towe;his sister, Patricia Emerson; and his brother-on-law, Bill Huggins.

A visitation service to honor and celebrate Coach Towe's life will be held on August 15, 2024, at Duckett - Robinson Funeral Home in Central, SC, from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM.

Coach Towe was proud to have coached at all the schools mentioned above and he specifically has requested that all former staff and athletes please come celebrate his life with his family and please wear your school’s colors.

The family will honor Coach’s request and will have a private committal service to be held at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Pickens, SC.

Coach Towe's unwavering dedication to shaping young minds and fostering athletic excellence will be deeply missed but will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing him. May his memory live on in the hearts of those whose lives he touched.

Again at the request of Coach Towe, in lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Calhoun Falls Charter School Athletic Department or to the Youth Athletic Department of your choice.
