Janet S. "Mom" Johns, 68, of Evansville, passed away Thursday, October 28, 2010 at Deaconess Hospice Care Center. Janet graduated from Central High School in 1960. She retired from the Evansville-Vanderburgh School Corporation as a reading aide after 25 years. Then she worked at T.J. Maxx as a security guard and later at Ameriqual. She supported the Vanderburgh Humane Society and Defenders of Wildlife by sponsoring 2 wolves. She truly loved her family, extended family and cats. Janet was preceded in death by her parents Paul and June McCutchan and ex husband Ronald F. Johns She is survived by sons James E. Jernigan, Sr. and Brandt E. Johns; daughter LaDonna Vincent and husband Jeffrey; grandchildren James Jernigan II, Shawna Lynn Jernigan, Dana Hagaman, Brandt C. Johns, Andrew D. Johns; great grandchildren Zach Cook, Makayla Sturgon, Devyn Jernigan, Waylon Jernigan, Marissa Jernigan; and a sister, Judy Massey. Visitation will be from 2:00 – 8:00 Sunday, October 31, 2010 at Ziemer Funeral Home Central Chapel, 626 N. First Ave., Evansville, IN and continuing Monday from 9:00 till service time at 10:00 am with James Jernigan II officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Defenders of Wildlife, 1130 17th St. NW, Washington, DC 20036. Condolences may be made to the family online at www.ziemerfuneralhome.com
