Janice Robin Bland was born on April 12, 1958, to the late Sarah Wyndale Bland and Sydney Bland. She and her family lived in the Iron Bound section in Newark, New Jersey, before moving to South 16th Street in Newark, New Jersey. As a child, she attended 15th Avenue School. Which she graduated from in 1972. She then attended Vailsburg High School, where she took college prep courses.
Janice enjoyed many hobbies, such as sewing, watching baseball (her favorite team was the Mets). And writing. She enjoyed writing so much that when she graduated from Vailsburg High School in 1976 and was accepted into Montclair State University, she studied Journalism.
While attending Montclair, Janice was a writer for the school newspaper the Montclarion. And also worked at Bambergers department store in Downtown Newark. She graduated with a degree in Journalism in 1980.
After graduating, Janice started working for Howard Relocation in Livingston, New Jersey. After leaving there, she began working for Newark Public Schools as a substitute. She later became a permanent sub at Mt. Vernon School in Newark until June 2024. Janice was called home on August 15, 2025. She was predeceased by her mother, Sarah Wyndale Bland, her father, Sydney Bland, and her brother, Ronald Bland. She leaves to mourn a host of cousins, godchildren, and friends.
