Janice H. Whisonant, 84, of Rock Hill, SC, passed away peacefully on March 20, 2025, at Wayne T. Patrick Hospice House surrounded by the love of family and friends. Janice was born on January 5, 1941, to the late Arthur Hammond and Ola Sutton Hammond. She grew up in Rock Hill, SC, and retired as the Executive Secretary from the Athletics Department at Winthrop University after 30 years of service. Janice will always be remembered as a loving wife, mother, sister, and grandmother, and a faithful member of Catawba Baptist Church. She instilled the love of Christ in all that she did and always brought joy to those around her with her amazing sense of humor.
She is survived by her brother-in-law, Keith Whisonant (Michele); son Jeff Whisonant (Lori); daughter Allison Craig (Kenneth); grandchildren Scott Hatchell, Stacy C. Van Horn (Bill), Chris Craig, and Megan Whisonant (Will); great-grandchildren, Hayleigh Craig, Tripp Bland, and Austin Hatchell; numerous nieces and nephews; and special family friends, Lisa Allen and Betty Cheeseright.
She is preceded in death by her loving husband of 58 years Kenneth Ronald Whisonant; brothers James “Weasel” Hammond (Thelma), Arthur Hammond (Ann), Billy “Sig” Hammond (Mary Ellen), Mickey Hammond (Gloria), Jack Hammond (Shirley); sisters Ruby Fowler (Nuby), Idell Hill (Julian), Ramona Moore (Eldon), and Joanne Bishop (Ray); and her beloved grandson Jeremy Hatchell.
A private funeral and memorial service will be held at Catawba Baptist Church.
