Jason Bart Fife, age 47, passed away unexpectedly on August 30, 2025 after a short battle with MELAS syndrome. He was born on March 27, 1978, in Provo, Utah. Jason's early life was marked by a passion for the outdoors, which led him to a remarkable career in the ski industry.
Jason's journey began after graduating from Pleasant Grove High School, when he started his career at Snowbird's Cliff Lodge. It was here that he found his calling in the ski industry, eventually becoming a beloved member of the Canyons Ski Patrol. Over the course of 25 years, Jason dedicated himself to ensuring the safety and well-being of countless skiers and snowboarders. He retired in 2025, earning a lifetime season pass to any Vail Resort, a well-deserved honor for his years of service and dedication to the sport.
When the snow melted, Jason shifted his focus to a different kind of adventure. He worked for the U.S. Forest Service in the Sawtooth Mountain Range, near the town of Stanley, Idaho during the off-season. His love for the wilderness and commitment to preserving it defined much of his life.
On December 2, 2016, Jason married the love of his life, Jaimee Elliot, in Coalville, Utah. Together, they built a life full of love, laughter, and adventure. In 2017, their family was completed with the addition of their loyal dog, Stanley, who brought endless (noise) and joy to their home.
Jason was a true adventurer whose life was defined by courage, exploration, and a deep love of the outdoors. After graduation, he and his friends set out for Alaska in a beat-up Mazda 626 with little more than sketchy tires and a sketchier plan. That month-long trip marked the beginning of a lifetime of adventure. Jason returned to Alaska several times, once to heli-ski, and later as a hunting guide. On one trip, he lived alone in the wilderness for an entire month, preparing a remote runway for planes while fending off bears. News of the September 11 attacks reached him a week later, delivered by a bush pilot who tossed a newspaper out of his plane window.
His spirit of adventure also carried him across the globe. Jason spent a summer in Australia working as part of a ski patrol exchange program. He loved backcountry skiing. He summited Mt. Timpanogos, The Grand Teton, and countless other peaks in search of the last bit of winter. On one unforgettable trip to Jackson Hole, Jason dropped into the legendary Corbet's Couloir, one of the most difficult in-bounds runs in North America.
Jason also cherished quieter adventures. He and his dear wife Jaimee spent many summers at Blue Water Resort in Bear Lake, and they traveled together to Hawaii, the Virgin Islands, and the San Rafael Swell. After buying their cozy home in Heber, the couple enjoyed home and yard projects, as well as Jason's "indoor" gardening green house. For Jason, that home became a place he never wanted to leave.
Jason is survived by his dog, Stanley; his siblings, Stacey Fife, Laura Lee (Dave), and Nathan (Lacy); his in-laws, Ray and Cathy Elliott; his nephew Coby Salazar; nieces Ember Lee, Cassidy Fife, and Kate Lee and great-niece Violetta Salazar.
Jason is preceded in death by his wife, Jaimee Marie Elliott and his loving parents Allen and Joyce Fife.
He will be missed dearly by his family and countless friends who were touched by his humor, boldness, and zest for life.
In lieu of flowers, Jason's loved ones ask that you honor his memory by taking a hike and cleaning up a trail, just as he would have wanted.
