Jeanne Irving Platt, born on March 29, 1938, in Falmouth, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully at her cherished home on January 14, 2025, after a courageous battle with cancer. She was the daughter of Reginald Harmon Irving of Nova Scotia and Marie Catherine Scheurweghs of Belgium and the youngest of five siblings. Jeanne was predeceased by her siblings Reginald Irving, Frances Langford, and John Irving and is survived by her older sister Muriel Sue Miller of Florida.
A proud 1956 graduate of Lawrence High School, Jeanne was an active student who excelled as a cheerleader, Key Club Sweetheart, and member of the Honor Society. After graduation, she worked as a legal secretary, during which time she met William Platt of Sharon, Connecticut. The couple married on November 22, 1958, at St. Barnabas Church in Falmouth and shared a remarkable 66 years together. As the devoted wife of an Air Force navigator, Jeanne embraced a life filled with travel across Europe and the United States.
Jeanne was an avid snow and water skier, bowler, and golfer who brought enthusiasm to all she pursued. In 1995, after many military relocations, Jeanne and Bill returned to her beloved hometown of Falmouth. She became an active member of St. Barnabas Church and served as Vice President of the Episcopal Church Women (ECW), dedicating herself to organizing luncheons, teas, festivals, and fairs. Her friends often remarked that any event planned by Jeanne was destined for success.
Jeanne is survived by her loving husband William; daughters Katherine Edgar (Scott) and Susan Sinderson (Doug); grandchildren Brian Blackburn, Brittany Warren, Sara Martzahl, and Megan Jeanne Sinderson; seven step grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and numerous nieces and nephews. She will be remembered fondly by all who knew her.
A memorial service will be held at St. Barnabas Church in Falmouth on February 1, 2025, at 2 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital at stjude.org or (800) 805-5856.
