Jennifer Thompson Falla, whose kindness and love touched countless lives, passed away on January 12, 2025. Originally from Queens, New York, Jennifer made the New Orleans area her home in 2006, drawn to the city's open and welcoming spirit that matched her own.
Jennifer dedicated her professional life to helping others. She began her career as a New York City public school teacher after earning her Bachelor of Arts from Hunter College and Master of Education from Pace University. After relocating to Louisiana, she completed a Bachelor of Nursing from Louisiana State University and worked as a registered nurse in New Orleans.
A woman of deep faith with a special relationship with God, Jennifer approached life with love and empathy. Her family was the center of her world, and she held a special affection for her young cousins, delighting in their joys and achievements. She was known for her remarkable intelligence, gift for writing, unbeatable skill at Scrabble, and green thumb that brought beauty to any space she tended.
Jennifer's love for animals, especially cats (whom she endearingly called "mama"), was legendary. She was a devoted New York Mets fan, took special joy in decorating for Christmas, loved long road trips, and treasured many inside jokes with her sister.
Jennifer found a second home in New Orleans that embraced her accepting and open-minded nature. She was a kind and considerate citizen who valued her community and cared deeply for her neighbors. She formed meaningful friendships in the city and delighted in its unique culture, though she never lost her New Yorker's love for rainbow cookies.
Jennifer was preceded in death by her parents, Elizabeth Thompson Falla and Federico Thompson Falla, and her grandmother, Beatrice M. Dunajski. She is survived by her sister, Jessica Thompson Falla; her aunts, Beatrice T. Dunajski and Carolyn Wagner; and multiple cherished cousins.
Jennifer will be cremated, with small services to be held for family and friends in New Orleans and the New York area in the future. Arrangements entrusted to Tharp Funeral Home. Expressions of love and sympathy may be viewed and placed at www.tharpcares.com.
