Jerome Francis Sheehan

1932-2025

Jerome Francis Sheehan, of Springfield, PA passed away peacefully on August 5, 2025.

Known to all as Jerry, he was predeceased by his beloved wife of nearly 61 years, Mary Louise Sheehan (née Kugler), as well as his brother John, and sisters, Mary Bakey and Dorothy Gilligan.

He is survived by his seven devoted children: Jerome, Jr., Dennis (Eileen), Mary Lou Gonzalez (Berto), John (Nicole), Thomas (Annmarie), Colleen Klapinsky (Josh), and Theresa Dorley (Andy). Jerry was a proud and loving PopPop to fifteen grandchildren: Berto, Aine, Mary, Teresa, Charlie, Maria, Owen, Madison, Tara, Jerome, Colin, Shane, Ana, Andrew, and Emma.

He is also survived by his sisters-in-law, Louise Sheehan, Kathleen Maguire, and Christina Kugler, along with many cherished nieces, nephews, and friends.

Born in Philadelphia on November 2, 1932, to Denis and Cecilia Sheehan (née Heuler), Jerry was the youngest of four children. He was raised in Narberth, Pennsylvania, attended St. Margaret's School, and graduated from St. Thomas More High School. Jerry went on to graduate from Saint Joseph's College, Class of 1954. Within these communities Jerry formed many lifelong friendships.

Jerry proudly served in the U.S. Army in Army Audit, where his integrity and keen attention to detail reflected his deep commitment to service. A Certified Public Accountant, he began his career in public accounting with Peat Marwick, then went on to work with the Pennsylvania Railroad and later Penn Central. He spent his final professional years with Bell Atlantic, ultimately retiring from Verizon.

Jerry met Mary Louise Kugler at a dance at Drexelbrook and they married in June 1961. They ultimately settled in Springfield to raise their seven children together. They were both active members of Saint Dorothy Parish. Jerry served the St. Dorothy community in many capacities over the years - from working with the parish council finance committee to coaching and, later, volunteering in the parish counting room, helping with the weekly collections.

He was a true gentleman, cherished for his warm heart and wonderful sense of humor. Whether you encountered Jerry on one of his many neighborhood walks, riding the trolley, at daily Mass, at a St. Joe's game, or attending his children's and grandchildren's events, he always greeted others with a kind word and a smile - leaving a lasting impression on everyone he met.

A man of deep Catholic faith, Jerry lived his values in every aspect of his life. Faith and family were the foundations of who he was. Through his illness in recent years, Jerry maintained a prayerful life and joyful disposition.

Relatives and friends are invited to Jerry's viewing on Wednesday evening, August 13, from 6 to 8pm and Thursday morning, August 14, from 8:00 to 10:30am at St. Dorothy Church, 4910 Township Line Road, Drexel Hill, PA 19026.
