Jimmy Gale Gandy was born on March 3, 1940 in Paris, Mississippi.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Barbara Sue Gandy, and is survived by their three children; son, David Gandy (and his wife Penny, who he loved like a daughter) and two daughters Gina Morphis and Julie Gandy.
He was also proud Pa to six grandchildren (Kaleb Gandy, Bryce Gandy, Brandon Gandy, Breanna Gandy, Bethany Morphis, and Lindsay Morphis) and four great grandchildren (Brecken, Teigan, Elsie and Judson).
He served in the US Army from July 1963 to July 1965. He was very mechanical and able to drive virtually any vehicle they had on the base. He earned his living as a highly skilled brick mason, able to look at a wall and calculate in his head the materials needed to complete the job.
He taught himself to play guitar when he was quite young and had a great love of music, spending hours listening to his extensive record collection. He was able to build or repair almost anything he set his mind to and built a 3 bedroom house when he was 16 years old.
He was the second youngest of eleven children and was very special to a large number of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Being such a capable, handy person, he often gave his time to family and friends clearly displaying an incredible work ethic that he instilled in his children and grandchildren.
He loved animals and was a gifted storyteller, entertaining us all with his quick wit and amazing memory. At the same time, he was also very comfortable with silence and his own company.
We will all miss his stories, the twinkle in his icy blue eyes, and his little chuckle as he shared something that tickled him. It could be about some wildlife he saw while working in the yard, someone he ate with at the diner, or his family, but they were an absolute joy to hear. He was the best of them and we will all miss him terribly until we are together once again.
