Jimmy Goins Obituary
A graduate of Walker High School, Big Jim served his country with honor in the United States Air Force. During the Vietnam War, he was stationed in Southeast Asia, demonstrating his dedication and commitment to service. After his military career, he embarked on a professional journey that took him across the country and around the world. He spent two decades working in Jamaica, a place he grew to love dearly and considered his second home.
Big Jim had a passion for sports, music and competition. A devoted supporter of LSU athletics, he rarely missed an opportunity to cheer on the Tigers. Whether watching football or engaging in friendly games of golf or billiards, he found joy in both the thrill of competition and the company of those around him. His love for sports was matched only by his love for spending time with family and friends.
Above all else, Big Jim cherished his family. He was a proud and loving grandparent who treasured every moment spent with his grandchildren. He is survived by his son Jon-Michael Goins and daughter-in-law Nicole Goins; son Rodney Hood and daughter-in-law Bonnie Hood; grandchildren Reese Goins, Cameron Goins, Jamie Hood and Stefanie Howe. Big Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Lena Knight Booker and Charles E. Goins.
A memorial service will be held on March 8, 2025, at Walker Baptist Church, located at 10696 Florida Blvd., Walker, Louisiana, 70785. The service will begin at 11:00 AM and conclude at 12:00 PM as family and friends gather to celebrate Big Jim's life and legacy.
Big Jim's warmth, humor, and unwavering loyalty will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. May his memory bring comfort to those who loved him.

Sorry to hear about Big Jim. I worked for him for over ten years as a cleaning assistant. I say, I worked, but it was more like a weekly visit with a friend. I enjoyed my day talking to him and asking for his words of wisdom. Condolences to his family. He will greatly be missed. RIP BIG JIM
