Visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 13, 2025, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. in the chapel of Baker Funeral Home.
A private family graveside will be held at a later date.
Jimmy was born on February 3, 1958, in Moultrie, Georgia. He was the son of the late Charles Ferol Mims and Essie Holland Mims. He grew up in Hartsfield, where he chose to farm with his father.
His greatest treasure was his love for his animals. He had bird feeders at home and on the farm. He took care of his herd of cows. He would ride through his farm looking for wildlife and would leave grain for them in various places. He loved his dog; he called him "My big white dog," and the rest of us called him Roscoe. He was brokenhearted when he passed and still talked about him often. Diane and Kayla showed up last of May with a puppy he called a rat. He had become attached to the dog in the previous months.
Jimmy was preceded in death by his parents, his father-in-law, Donald Thomas, and nephews Daryl Randle and Joey Randle.
He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Diane Thomas Mims; sons, Don Mims (Jordan Keene), Jeremy Mims, Jason Mims, and J Mims; grandchildren whom he helped raise, Katie Norman and Robert White. He chose to adopt their sister Kayla 7 years ago and was enjoying raising her with his wife. His other grandchildren include Grayson Keene, Leia Keene, Marissa Mims, Madilyn Mims, Jayden Mims, Jayleigh Mims, Jason Theron Mims, James (Jimmy) Brian Mims, sister, Judy Randle; nephew, Ricky Randle; mother-in-law, Margaret Thomas; and several cousins.
