Obituary published on Legacy.com by Justen Funeral Home & Crematory - McHenry on Nov. 26, 2024.
Joan M Ambrose Fondly remembered by most, as Joanie, her story began on Nov 16, 1936. Born to Maurice and Margaret (Carden) Geary. Joanie spent her childhood in Chicago, IL with her siblings, Charles "Chuck", Mary Jane, and Daniel "Danny" As an adult, Joanie moved to the suburbs of Union, Wonder Lake, and McHenry where she raised a family of her own. She spent her last year sitting in the sun and enjoying community events with her new church friends and husband in Sunny Fort Myers, Florida.
Her life was intertwined with many friends and family, including her loving husband of 38 years Daniel "Doc" Ambrose of McHenry.
Joanie's earthly body left us on Nov 5th 2024, but her legacy of love lives on through her children and the memories that they share. The Late Thomas Blucher, Laura Keller and her husband Michael, Mark Blucher, Doreen Wagner and her husband David, Kevin Blucher and his wife Christine, and Karolyn Wotring and her fiancé Michael as well as Kimberly Lecco and her husband Michael, Donald Booker, the late Gene Booker and Barbara McIntosh.
Joanie's legacy continues to grow through her family, with over 31 Grand, Great Grand, and Great, Great Grand Children and many very special Nieces & Nephews. Joanie loved to share about her "kids" often showing pictures and sharing stories of them all to her friends.
Joanie spent most of her life in service to others both personally and professionally. She spent many years working at both Baxter health care and Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital. She also spent many of her retirement years as a volunteer at McHenry Hospital where she offered prayers, and words of encouragement to those who were sick or in need. Her favorite part of this noble pursuit, was working with her companions both gentle and small: helping to train miniature therapy horses and therapy dogs, who aided her in healing the weary of heart.
Joan was a woman of very strong faith and a prayer warrior throughout her life. She found solace in God's word, and her fellowship with her cherished church friends both in Lake Zurich Illinois as well as Fort Myers, FL.
She loved singing, dancing and tending to her flowers, but her favorite hobby was thrifting. Joanie loved to pick up little tokens of love during her treasure hunts. She always did special little things to make others know that they were loved. Joanie may have been small in stature, but her legacy is immeasurable. She will live on in the hearts of the thousands of lives that she touched throughout her 88 years with us.
