Joan Block

Joan (nee Basara) Block, 86, of Medford, NJ, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 11, 2024, at home surrounded by her family.
Born in Philadelphia, PA, Joan resided in Medford most of her life. She was an active parishioner at St. Mary of the Lakes R.C. Church in Medford. Joan was a member of the Bereavement Ministry, served as a Eucharistic Minister and Sacristan, and faithfully led the rosary every morning after daily Mass. She spent countless years greeting students as an administrative secretary in the Guidance Office at the Burlington County Institute of Technology (Medford) and enjoyed time in retirement gardening and serving as a volunteer at Virtua Health.
Wife of the late Ephraim Block, Joan's favorite job was being mom to her 6 children: David Block (Eleanor), Diane Jennings, Patricia Powers (Mike), Marianne Grant (Frank), Michelle Marabella (Mike), and Paul Block (Dara); and mommom to her 17 grandchildren: Michael (Hannah), Brittany, Courtney (Wesley), Jonathan (Maria), Alex, Shannon (Matthew), Austin, Tyler, Chrissy (Billy), Jared, Carrie, Lily, Frankie, Jeremay, Jun, Amber and Justin; and her 5 great-grandchildren: Brady, Archer, Baby Higgins (due Aug. 2nd), Baby Petracci (due Nov. 14th) and Colin.
Joan was a devoted daughter of the late Stanley and Mary Basara and last surviving of their 11 children, predeceased in death by Lee Boruta (Edward), Chester (Jean), Joseph (Dot), Eugene (Ronnie), Matthew (Ronnie), Walter (Janet), Mary McDevitt (Bill), Stanley, Evelyn Douglas, Edward. She is survived by two sisters-in-law, Claire Basara and "B" Basara, a brother-in-law, Charlie Douglas, and many nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends may greet the family on Thursday, June 20, 2024, from 10-11AM, at St. Mary of the Lakes R.C. Church, 40 Jackson Rd., Medford, NJ. A Funeral Mass will follow at 11AM, at the church.
Interment will be held in Our Lady of Czestochowa Cemetery, Doylestown, PA.
In lieu of flowers, memorial mass cards are preferred or contributions may be made in Joan's memory to St. Mary of the Lakes Church, 40 Jackson Road, Medford, NJ 08055; or St. Vincent de Paul Society, Jones Road, P.O. Box 1131, Medford, NJ.
