Joan was born on November 7, 1946, in Brooklyn, New York to the late Frederick and Patricia (Dowling) Merkel. She attended schools in New York City and later relocated to Pennsylvania and then to Massena. She was married to the late Bill Wallace.
Joan enjoyed playing Canasta with friends and family, watching cooking shows, and was an avid reader of Stephen King novels. She was also a true horror movie fan. Joan loved nothing more than her family and enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She is survived by her loving children, Rocco and wife Kim Seiler of Palmerton, PA, Joanie Seiler of Ocala, FL, Patrick and wife Kasey of Saylorsburg, PA, and April Seiler of Massena, NY. She is also survived by 20 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, two sisters: Barbara Favreau of Massena, Nancy Pape of Indiana, along with several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Joan was predeceased by her children Dawn Perez, Cassandra Sosa, and her siblings, Danny Markel and Patricia Clifton.
