JoAnn D. Sippie, 88, of Queen Creek, Arizona died of natural causes on May 26, 2025 after a brief illness. She was born on June 9, 1936 in Passaic, New Jersey. Her father died before she was born and she was raised by her hardworking mother, Helen, in Garfield, New Jersey.
Growing up without a father was difficult and she looked to our Father in Heaven through prayer for guidance and protection. On her way home from school, she would stop in the Catholic Church and share her day with the Lord and His Mother.
She was very athletic and played softball, basketball and ping pong and won many awards. She was also a talented singer. She sang on the radio and in local shows as a teenager. She married the love of her life, John Sippie on Feburary 2, 1957 and they moved to Cedar Knolls, NJ where they raised their family. She participated in school activities with her children and was an active member of Notre Dame of Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Cedar Knolls. She sang in the church choir; was a member of the Rosary Alter Society and was an adult advisor to the Antioch Teen Program for many years. Prior to her marriage to John, she was a PBX operator, secretary and receptionist for Hayden Chemical in Garfield, NJ.
She later worked as a crossing guard for the Hanover Township Police Department. The job she loved most was being a bus driver for Hanover Township Public Schools. She cherished all the memories of the children she drove to and from school and retired from this job in 1996. She moved to Arizona with John where they enjoyed their retirement through much travel. Two of their most memorable trips were their trip to the Holy Land where they traced the footsteps of Jesus and their trip to Rome where she sang at the Vatican for Pope Saint John Paul II.
JoAnn was predeceased by her husband of 59 years, John W. Sippie; her son, Frank P. Sippie; her mother, Helen Di Benedetto (Chabala) and step-father, Peter Di Benedetto; godfather to her son, Frank McKenna, Sr. and her godson, Nicholas Sippie.
She is survived by her daughter, Leslee Sippie-Miratsky and son-in-law Joseph B. Miratsky, Sr. grandchildren, Joseph B. Miratsky, Jr. and Annalee T. Miratsky; her sister Deborah Clayton and her husband Rick; brother-in-law Edwin Sippie and wife Joan; sister-in-law Josephine Sippie-Gora; godmother to her son, Antionette McKenna; and her goddaughter, Sharon Schneyer (Sawka) and her husband, William.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, June 25, 2025, 10 am at Notre Dame of Mt. Carmel Church, 75 Ridgedale Ave. Cedar Knolls, NJ. Visiting hours, Tuesday, June 24th from 4 pm to 7 pm at the Bradley Braviak Funeral Home, 49 Whippany Rd. Whippany, NJ. Interment Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Hanover, NJ.
