Miss JoAnne McCarthy, age 64, passed away on March 13, 2024, at her home in Lexington Park, Maryland following a long period of health issues.
Miss McCarthy was born on January 28, 1960, in Washington DC, to Harry Donald and Frances Louise Baker McCarthy of the Maryland, D.C. area. JoAnne was the second of four children. Upon the ending of her public schooling, she chose classes at "Davy Tree School" in Baltimore, where she learned to identify and care for trees, plants and etc. Although JoAnne worked various jobs; bookkeeping, Pizza Hut, she even drove heavy equipment during the updating of Rte. 4 when the Thomas Johnson bridge was built. Her true calling was in jobs related to, trees, bushes, flowers and anything that grew or was nature related. She enjoyed designing and making Bird houses and other neat items, from unusual natural materials found in the woods, on the beach or on top of a mountain among the rocks and moss. While working as a Ranger at Point Lookout, in St Mary's City, JoAnne found a huge tortoise shell, a VERY old military belt buckle, as well as a bird's best made entirely of cigarette butts. All of which were displayed at the Point Lookout visitor center. She was known to find items that most people would not see. JoAnne had a heart of gold; she loved her family and never met a person she wouldn't help. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
JoAnne is survived by her daughter, Rachel Marie McCarthy of the home. Two grandchildren; Vaeda Anne Nunez, and Isaiah James McCarthy of Park Hall, Maryland. Mother; Frances B. McCarthy, of King George, Virginia. Brother; Daniel Allen McCarthy (Patty) of Vail, AZ. Sister; Patricia Ann Caldwell (Timothy) of King George, Virginia. Also Surviving are two nieces; Alex McCarthy of AZ and Nicole McCarthy of Hagerstown, two nephews; Cameron McCarthy (Lizzie), of Montana, and Andrew McCarthy (Angell) of Great Mills, Maryland. Two great nephews Dylan McCarthy of Great Mills Maryland and Jackson McCarthy of Montana.
