He entered heaven peacefully at home on May 2, 2024.
Joe received his Ph.D. in 1973 from the University of Oklahoma Health Science Center. He joined LSU in 1973 as an instructor of anatomy, he became a full professor in 2002.
He won many honors as an educator including the Allen Copping Award for teaching in 2000.
His teaching involved all areas of the Anatomical Sciences-Gross Anatomy, Neuroanatomy, Histology, and Embryology. He was an outstanding educator, twice winning the Adrian F. Reed Award for Excellence in Instruction in Anatomy.
He retired from LSU in 2018 after serving 45 years. He taught many of the LSU graduate physicians who currently reside in the area.
Joe was preceded in death by his wife Linda and son-in-law Mike. He is survived by his two daughters, son-in-law, 5 grandchildren and 2 sisters. Joe loved spending time with his friends and family, fishing, drinking beer and his 2 dogs.
The Memorial Service for Joe will take place this Saturday, May 11 from 2:00-4:00 pm, at the Cane River Commissary, 4191 HWY 494, Natchez, LA.
In lieu of flowers please donate to the (Humane Society) hsnwla.com it is a non-profit organization, and no kill shelter for dogs.

Joe and I were good friends and collegues at the medical school from 1976. taught together in all of the courses for many years. we had alot of good times. We all thought we were pretty funny, the students not so much). Joe won that honor- no one will ever forget his "I am the Uterus" lecture. I am saddened to hear of his passing. Sorry for your loss. Dr Penny taught me in the fall of 1996 at LSUMC . He was a terrific teacher and all I have are fond memories . I am sorry for your loss , however his legacy will live on in all of us taking care of patients across Louisiana and the rest of the country .
