John Frederick Anderson, a native of West Haven, Connecticut, and resident of Chesapeake, Virginia passed away peacefully at the age of 90 on January 18, 2025.
John was the firstborn son of John and Sarah Anderson and had two brothers Carl and Paul. His entire family preceded him in death. John graduated from Granby High School in Norfolk, VA, and is an alumnus of William & Mary and Old Dominion University. He enlisted in the Army Reserve and the Air Force and was honorably discharged. He was an active member of the Commemorative Air Force for many years.
John married the love of his life Esther Lorraine Anderson in 1958, and they were married for 41 years. She preceded him in death in 1998.
John retired from Sears and Roebuck Corporation and then worked at Metropolitan Life Insurance.
He was a dedicated member of Temple Baptist Church in Chesapeake, Virginia. He proudly served in various capacities and was active in his community for many years.
John was a loving, and well-loved man. Affectionately known as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend; he modeled his life around his faith and his family. He lovingly and responsibly set an example that inspired character and integrity in his children and countless others.
He is survived by his four children: Karen and her husband Keith McPeeks, Steven and his wife Mary Kay Anderson, Gregory and his wife Adrianna Anderson, and his youngest daughter Valerie Anderson-David. His grandchildren include Daniel, David, Kaitlin, Ashley, Taylor, Anna, Aaron and nine great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at H.D. Oliver Funeral Apartments Norfolk Chapel, on Monday, January 27TH, 2025 at 12:30 PM and immediately after at Woodlawn Cemetery in Norfolk, Va. at 2:00 PM. The family will receive friends and loved ones at the H.D. Oliver Funeral Apartments on Sunday, January 26TH from 6 PM to 8 PM.
Online condolences may be offered to the family at hdoliver.com and donations may be made to the American Heart Association in honor of John F. Anderson.
