John (Johnny) Dale Bone, 82, of Anderson, SC passed away Saturday, August 9th at AnMed Hospital surrounded by his wife, children and grandchildren. Born in Anderson; he was the son of Mae Martin Woodward and Ben Bone. John attended Boys High and earned his undergraduate degree from Erskine College, and received his Masters degree from Clemson University. He dedicated his life to education and retired from Westside High School.

John was an Army Veteran and was involved in many civic organizations throughout the years like the YMCA, T.L. Hanna Booster Club, Jaycees, Habitat for Humanity, the Kiwanis Club, and several social clubs. Upon retirement he enjoyed volunteering his time at the Anderson Police Department. John was a proud member of Central Presbyterian Church for 50 years, serving as a Sunday School teacher, deacon and elder. He then joined First Baptist Church of Anderson to dote on his grandchildren more, where he taught Sunday School in the Sojourners class and loved singing in the FBC choir.

John is survived by his wife of 56 years, Brenda Ratterree Bone, son John Griffen Bone (Heidi) and daughter, Shelby Bone Clardy (Timothy). Papa ("Pops") adored his four grandchildren; Lillian (16) and Eily (7) Bone and Isaac (14) and Sara Beth Clardy (12).

John was an avid collector of: Star Wars action figures, stamps, glass bottles and many other special treasures that a few lucky people had the privilege to view. But, he treasured most of all the collection of family and friends that he loved loyally and fiercely.

Help us to celebrate his beautiful, selfless life Sunday, August 17th at 3 pm at First Baptist Church, Anderson, SC with a visitation to follow. A private family burial will precede the memorial service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Meals on Wheels, P.O. Box 285, Anderson, SC 29622 or First Baptist Church, 307 S. Manning Street, Anderson, SC 29624.
