John Robert Cammer Jr, 64, of Goose Creek passed away peacefully in his home on October 5, 2024.
John was born February 7, 1960 in Charleston, SC. At 18 he joined the Charleston Fire Department, following in his father's footsteps. John loved being a fireman, he was an old school smoke eater. He was dedicated to the job and eventually became a captain. His favorite thing to do was ride his Harley Davidson. In recent years, he joined Fire & Iron Station 28 motorcycle club and was honored to receive his cut last year. He spent most of his life serving and taking care of others. There was nothing he wouldn't do for his family and friends. He was happiest with his family, especially his children and grandchildren.
John is preceded in death by his father John R Cammer Sr, mother Patsy Basobas, stepmother Alice Cammer, sisters, Angela Cammer and Samantha Cammer. He is survived by his children John Cammer III (Christy) of Summerville, David Cammer, Steven Cammer (Mischelle Jenks) of Goose Creek, Amber Cammer (Jeremy Morley) of Summerville, Megan Cammer and Xavier Cammer. Grandchildren Saige Cammer, Sophie Cammer, Jackson Morley, Tilson Morley, Abigail Morley, Nathan Kitchen, and Brandon Prince. Stepfather Asterio Basobas Sr. Siblings Pamela Cammer, Suezanne Foot(Phil), Asterio Basobas Jr. (Joanie), Zenaida Anderson (Locke) and William Cammer. Many nieces and nephews who were all very special to him and his beloved dog, Kami.
The family will receive friends Friday, October 11 from 3 to 5 PM at Chaparral Freewill Baptist of the Pentecostal Faith located at 365 Domingo Drive, Moncks Corner, SC 29461. A Celebration of Life service will immediately follow.
Flowers may be sent to the church or please consider donating to Hurricane Helene Relief.
