John Chittick

John Frederick Yelton Chittick, 59, of Charlotte, NC, died November 26th in a tragic accident. An Air Force military brat, John was born in Sumter, South Carolina. Throughout his early years, he lived in California, New Mexico, Texas, Alabama and Alaska before settling in Charlotte, NC. He earned his Associates degree from Central Piedmont Community College and his Bachelor's degree from the University of North Carolina, Charlotte in Civil Engineering Technologies. He went on to start his own home improvement business, in which he was successful for over 25 years. It was once said that John's childhood motto was "If it's not broke, break it" so it makes perfect sense that he fixed things for a living.
John and Janet met in 1993 and they married April 8, 2000; he was a loving Papa to Julian, Jenna and James, and he always looked forward to his nightly walks with the family dog,Tacoma. He loved to cook, perfecting his recipes for bread, wings, cookies and of course pizza. He loved his 90's grunge music, frequently cranking it up in the garage and singing at the top of his lungs. He was a life-long Steelers fan and there was never a Sunday during football season that wasn't dedicated to the game and fantasy football. Given that he was a cradle Episcopalian,
Sundays also meant days spent at church. During his time at St. John's he became involved in several ministries, including teaching Kindergarten Sunday School and most dear to his heart, EYC (Episcopal Youth Community) where he built many impactful relationships with both youth and advisors.
John was predeceased by James Everett Chittick (Pop) and Jerry Mount. He is survived by his mother, Margaret Chittick; siblings Kevin Mount (Sandy), Angela Nicholls (Sandy), Carla Lezeau (Jim); Beverly Mount; wife, Janet Haussmann Chittick; children, Michael Julian Haussmann (Shannon), Jenna Marie Chittick and James Houston Chittick; his two grandchildren Aeron and Lucy; and many nieces and nephews.
A service celebrating his life will be held at 2:00pm onSaturday, December 7th at St. John's Episcopal Church, 1623 Carmel Rd. Charlotte NC 28226. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the St. John's Youth Fund https://onrealm.org/STJE/give/Chittick.
