John DeNardo, 85, of Rehoboth Massachusetts and Federal Hill Providence passed away unexpectedly on February 29, 2024. John is survived by his loving brother Domenic DeNardo and his wife Marilyn and their children, Kenneth DeNardo and his wife Catherine, Stephen DeNardo and his wife Bethany, and Laraine Coffey and her husband Dennis. He was predeceased by his parents, Joseph and Concetta DeNardo.
John worked as a teacher in the Providence Public Schools for 30 years and was concurrently employed at the US Postal Service for 35 years, finally retiring in 1998. John treasured spending holidays, birthdays and family celebrations throughout the year with his large extended family surrounded by his many nieces and nephews and delicious food prepared by Marilyn.
Born and raised on Federal Hill, John maintained a second residence in Federal Hill even after moving to his country home in Rehoboth, Massachusetts in 2001. John visited Federal Hill every single day, right up until his very last day. He enjoyed socializing with his wide circle of friends on Federal Hill and visiting his favorite restaurants, bakeries and coffee shops. John was an avid sports fan. He enjoyed all sports, but he especially loved baseball and his cherished Red Sox. John played golf, baseball and softball throughout his life. John loved to cook and was renowned for his many Calabrian specialties, especially his stuffed artichokes.
His funeral will be Saturday, March 9, at 8:30am from the "WOODLAWN" Funeral Home, 600 Pontiac Ave., Cranston, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10am in Holy Ghost Church, Atwells Ave., Providence. John could always be seen with his buddy Milo St. Angelo. They were best friends and great people who served along side me for many years in the Providence School Dept. They would help me late into Friday nights going through the pike of folders I had to get through. John was a very special person and always was willing to go above and beyond the call of duty. He was one gentleman that I will never forget! Rest in peace my friend!
