With heavy hearts, we softly say goodbye to a soul whose light touched us all-John H. Ebelein, a man of integrity, compassion, and boundless love. He departed peacefully on July 16, 2025, after a brave and steadfast fight with brain cancer, leaving behind a legacy etched in the hearts of many.
A devoted husband to Arlene, a proud father to Sandy Hentschel, Tracy and Todd Ebelein, a loving grandfather to Alexa Ebelein, Cole and Gavin Hentschel-John's greatest joys. His life was a tapestry woven with kindness, laughter, and unwavering dedication. Born to Bertha and Walter Ebelein, Sr., in Baltimore, he grew up with a heart full of love for life, guided by a sense of purpose and a spirit of service.
As the proud proprietor of The Paper People in Salisbury, MD, John built more than a business-he built a community, side by side with his daughter Sandy, rooted in family, perseverance, and service. His sharp mind and steady leadership left an imprint on all who knew him, and his generous heart was a beacon of warmth and kindness.
John was deeply respected and dearly loved; John's presence was a gift. His laughter echoed in memories, his wisdom offered comfort, and his love remains an everlasting flame. A Freemason, a man of faith and service, he was a cherished member of the Lions Club and Oak Ridge Church, always eager to lend a helping hand and share in a friendly game of cards.
He leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and unwavering spirit-survived by his beloved wife, Arlene; his children, Sandy, Tracy, and Todd; his grandchildren, Cole, Gavin, and Alexa; his sons-in-law, Steve Hentschel and Walter Johnson, his daughter-in-law, Rebecca Hentschel; his siblings, Walter Ebelein, Jr. and Michele Bowers; his brother-in-law, George Bowers; his nieces and nephews, Denise, Dawn, Lisa, Greg, Gary, Michael, and Christopher; and a multitude of friends whose lives he touched.
Though he has taken his final journey, his light continues to shine in our hearts. His kindness, laughter, and love will forever be a guiding star in our lives.
Come join us for a celebration of life being held at 4 p.m. on July 26, 2025 at the Green Hill Country Club, 5471 Whitehaven Rd. Quantico, MD 21856.
