John Paul Geffre passed away on June 16, 2025 at the Oakes Good Samaritan Society. John was born April 26, 1949 to Paul and Mary (Guyott) Geffre. He was the first baby to use the incubator at St. Joseph's Hospital in Oakes. He attended Crete School for three years and then went to the Catholic School for grades three and four. He graduated from OHS in 1967. While in high school he worked for Arnie Widmer on his farm. He attended NDSU and graduated in 1971. After college he began working at Holsum Bakery in Fargo, ND and was in a supervisory position until retiring in 1996. He helped Thomas on the farm in spring through fall and spent winters in Phoenix, AZ assisting Eugene.
John married Diane Hanson at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Fargo, ND on May 4th, 1974. They had three children: Christine (Geffre) Oien (Milnor, ND) and her daughters, Ali Geffre (Vancouver, WA) and Tori (Bob) Sears (Fargo, ND) and children Kylie & Liaem; Catherine Geffre (St. Cloud, MN); and David Geffre (St. Cloud, MN) and his daughter Corrina Brown (Fargo, ND). He is also survived by brothers Eugene (Strawberry, AZ), Eva Marie Tesky (Jamestown, ND), Melvin Geffre (Castaic, CA), Thomas (Margie) Crete, ND, Anthony (Michelle) Gillette, WY and Mary Carol Smith (Glendale, AZ) along with many nieces, nephews & cousins.
He was preceded in death by paternal & maternal grandparents, father & mother, brother Michael Geffre, brother-in-law James Tesky, and sister-in-law Sally Geffre
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, July 8, 2025 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church in Oakes. Memories may be shared and viewed here.
