John Grohmann Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Ratterman Brothers Funeral Home - St. Matthews on Nov. 2, 2023.
John Grohmann, 62, passed away on October 26, 2023, from metastatic melanoma. His humor and generosity of spirit shone through to the very end.
Born on February 9, 1961, in Zurich, Switzerland, John was the third of six children born to Helen and Norbert Grohmann. John grew up in Louisville. He was a proud graduate of St. Leonard's School, St. Xavier High School, the University of Kentucky, and the UK College of Law. He practiced law in Kentucky and Florida for over 30 years.
John was a lifelong student and enjoyed discussing any number of esoteric subjects at every opportunity. He never met a stranger and never forgot a friend. Those friends' many expressions of kindness were profoundly appreciated by John, especially during his recent struggles.
John's deepest love was for his children, Kristofer, Kasia, and William. He was so proud of the young lady and gentlemen they'd become.
John is also survived by his loving siblings, Jennifer Grohmann Schiller, Steve Grohmann (Deanna), James Grohmann (Cynthia), Beth Burnett, and Anne Eddins (Kevin), and a host of nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held Saturday November the 11th, from 10 a.m. to noon, with a service to begin at noon, at Ratterman Brothers Funeral Home, 3711 Lexington Rd. Louisville.

When a friend of a friend becomes a friend is how I describe John. We met in high school (St. X) and again later in law school (UK). We ran a bit with Mark Gleason and shared laughs (and misery) in the halls of law school. Unfortunately, it would be a sad reason (Mark's passing) that would bring us back together. John was always easy-going and genuinely interested in other people...he was quick with words of encouragement, had a keen wit, and freely shared his sincere smile (his whole face lit up)...all of which made him good company. Sorry that time and distance proved too great a hurdle. Carry on, John. All my best to your family and friends.

John was such a postive influence on me growing up. Fun to be around. Witty. Charming. One of my favorite memories was when John, Kent Bartram and I "took" a fall break during college to go to Naples FL. UK didn't even have a fall break but we went anyway.
