John H. Harris passed away June 22, 2024, at Excel Nursing Home.
John was born September 21, 1927, in Neelyville, Missouri to Josephine and Oscar Smith. As a boy John worked on the farm until he turned 18. In November 1945 John joined the United States Navy, where he spent two years.
John birthed his one and only daughter Joann Harris in July 1962. John was the definition of a hard worker and a very well-dressed man. John worked many years at Santa Fe Railroad (BNSF) until he retired in 1986. John loved to travel, camp, and he enjoyed working on cars. But his real love was motorcycles.
John was a long-time member of Second Baptist Church until 2002 when he married Marie Taffe-Harris. He then became a member of Salem Baptist Church. John was a strong man of faith. He was always saying "The good Lord has been good to me".
John decided that he wanted to return home a few years ago to live out the rest of his days with his daughter and his granddaughter. God's grace allowed him to live a long full life of love and laughter. Those he took care of returned the same care to him until God called him home.
John H. Harris leaves behind his JoAnn Harris (daughter), Tisharria Harris (granddaughter), Dion Troupe (great-grandson), Laila Troupe, Malayah Troupe, and Ayanna Troupe-Smith (great-great granddaughters) and host a family and some friends. He is loved and will truly be missed.
