Virginia Beach – John Tiffany Litz, 76, passed away peacefully on May 27th, 2024, after a long and valiant fight with Parkinson's Disease. Although diagnosed at 53, he did not let his disease change the way he lived his life to the fullest over the last 23 years. He is preceded in death by his parents Charles Tiffany Litz and Margaret Hayes Litz. Born in Bluefield, West Virginia, he moved to Norfolk as a child and was a graduate of Norview High School. He met his wife of 54 years, Patricia Green Litz, at Virginia Tech in 1966, the year Tech welcomed the first class of both women and civilian men. He graduated in the Class of 1970.
John started his career in commercial real estate with the Equitable. He joined S.L. Nusbaum in 1981. He was successful in business, winning several Top Deal awards during his career. He was deeply loyal to his Nusbaum family and enjoyed over 35 years of service before retiring as Senior Vice President in 2016. In his retirement he served on the Board of Directors for Towne Bank.
John was a fervent fan of all Virginia Tech sports, but especially football. He was a season ticket holder for over 30 years and truly bled maroon and orange. He was an avid golfer for most of his life and had many lively groups of friends with whom he especially liked to play. John and Patricia actively enjoyed support of the Virginia Beach Neptune Festival since John served as a Triton in 1994.
He is survived by his wife Patricia, his mother-in-law Patricia Swann Green, his sister-in-law Jane Marie Green, all of Virginia Beach; his daughter Tiffany Litz-Clifton and son-in-law George Prescott Clifton of Wesley Chapel, NC, his son Charles Bradford Litz of Virginia Beach; two granddaughters, Quinn Emeline and Piper Prescott Clifton of Wesley Chapel, NC; his brother Eric Litz (Pam) of Tallahassee, FL; his sister Myra Stewart (Bill) of Wilmington, NC; three nieces and a nephew, Amy Lato (Scott) and Rebecca Litz of Tallahassee, FL, Haley Stewart (Dwight) of San Diego, CA and Ian Stewart (Leah) of Nashville, TN. Also left to keep his memory alive are several very special friends from The Friday Night Group and his men's breakfast group with whom he has spent decades enjoying meals all over town, sharing stories, laughing, and supporting each other in the good times and the bad.
A graveside service will be held on Sunday, June 9th at 1pm at Eastern Shore Chapel Cemetery, 2020 Laskin Rd, Virginia Beach, VA 23454. The service will be followed by a reception at Cypress Point Country Club, 5340 Club Head Road Virginia Beach. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research. Condolences to the family may be offered at www.hollomon-brown.com
