John Charles McCurdy, age 65, of Naperville formerly of Delaware, Tennessee, North Carolina, South Carolina, Pennsylvania and Ohio, passed away on May 9, 2024 with his family by his side. He was born in Seaford, Delaware, on May 15, 1958, to Charles Eugene "Bud" McCurdy and Jeanne nee McIlhenny.
Loving husband of Angela nee Canady. Dear father of James Ian (Keri) McCurdy and Charles Alexander (Mabel) McCurdy. John also leaves behind his parents, aunt Martha Kennedy, uncle John (Linda) McIlhenny, siblings Lynne O'Connor, David (Nicole) McCurdy and Anne McCurdy, as well as many close friends and extended family members.
John grew up in Delaware and Tennessee and attended Seaford High School, class of 1976. He went on to earn his undergraduate degree in psychology from the University of Delaware, and his MBA from the University of North Carolina - Chapel Hill, where he met the love of his life, Angela, in 1986. The two were married on May 27, 1989 at The Planters in Marietta, Georgia. In his career, John worked in corporate communication, manufacturing, sales, and marketing for Sonoco Products Company, Pliant Corporation, Alcan Packaging, Coroplast, Inc., and D.S. Smith. He served as a member of the Board of Directors for the Reusable Packaging Association.
John was an active member of Grace United Methodist Church in Naperville where he served as an usher and participated in the Praise team. He was active for many years with the Side x Side youth summer mission program as a mentor and musician. He volunteered in partnership projects with Rebuilding Aurora and Habitat for Humanity.
John loved spending time with his many friends and family. He enjoyed playing and listening to music, biking, exploring new restaurants and cooking techniques, growing heirloom tomatoes, and mastering the art of grilling with his Big Green Egg. He spent many hours preparing and sharing meals with those he loved. Every summer that he was able he traveled to his "happy place", Cape May Point, New Jersey to spend time with family. He remained an avid Tarheel basketball fan all his life and ran many office March Madness bracket pools.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the John C. McCurdy Side x Side Scholarship fund at Grace United Methodist Church would be appreciated. https://pushpay.com/g/peopleofgrace?src=hpp Select the John C. McCurdy Side x Side Scholarship fund the drop down under giving type.

My heart feels for all of you. John was a good, good man. My husband Robb worked closely with John and cherished his friendship. Now they'll both be watching over us after their brave fights.
