John W. Murnan, age 81, of Chillicothe, passed away on Wednesday, September 8, 2021 at his home surrounded by his family.
John was born on April 26, 1940 in Princeville, IL to Louie C. and Virginia M. (Jackson) Murnan. He married Janet Yaunk on May 30, 1964 in Peoria, IL.
Surviving are his wife, Janet; his daughters, Kimberly (Dennis) Caughey, Stacy (Alan) Vangunten and Leah (Floyd) Henderson, all of Chillicothe; his grandchildren, Deric, Robin (Drew), Trevor, Alli and Amie; his step-grandchildren, C.J., Brandi, Floyd Jr., and Marisa; and three great-grandchildren, Riley, Bailee and Madden. Also surviving are his brother, Greg (Kim) Murnan and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his stepfather, Clarence; one brother and two sisters.
John worked for Caterpillar for 30 years and retired in 1994 as an inspector. He was a member of Chillicothe First United Methodist Church, the National Rifle Association, the UAW, and was a founding member of the Chillicothe Sportsmen's Club.
A graveside service will be held on Monday, September 13, 2021 at 11am at Princeville Township Cemetery with Rev. Dave Swain officiating. Visitation will be held on Sunday, September 12, 2021 from 3pm to 5pm at Weber-Hurd Funeral Home in Chillicothe. Memorials may be made to UnityPoint Hospice.
