John Richard Nemergut

John Richard Nemergut, age 89, of Erie, passed away on Wednesday January 24, 2024, at UPMC-Hamot Hospital following a brief illness. He was born in Erie on September 27, 1934, a son of the late Stephen and Mary (Hoydic) Nemergut. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Dorothy Radecki, Rose Kupniewski, Margaret Wlodarczyk, Eleanor Majewski and Stephen (Sonny) Nemergut.
John attended Tech Memorial High School and proudly served his country in the United States Army. He retired from Kaiser Aluminum and was a longtime member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church. He was the most hard-working, dedicated father to his four daughters and was so proud of them. He loved his sons-in-laws and enjoyed spending time with them especially on the golf course. He took up golfing later in life and became an avid golfer. He thrived on the challenge of beating them at the game and sometimes did! He loved them like his own. John enjoyed meeting up with his buddies at the Polish Falcons where he was a member for over 60 years. During the summer he enjoyed his weekly rides with his wife driving around the peninsula and especially watching the ducks. On occasion he loved trying his luck at the casino. John loved the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing. Fishing off the pier and ice fishing on the lake were some of his favorite pastimes. He always loved a good game of cards especially at family gatherings.
He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years Irene (Winiarczyk) Nemergut; their children, Sharon (John) Sabella, Susan (Thomas) Bazala, Mary Beth (Robert) Hoyt and Linda (William) Gross. John is further survived by eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by his daughters and especially his wife who took loving care of him in these last few months.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 AM on Wednesday January 31, 2024 at St. Patrick Catholic Church 130 East 4th St. Erie, PA 16507, followed by burial at Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
