John Thornton Obituary

John "Jack" Alexander Thornton, age 66, of Delaware, Ohio passed away on Monday, September 29, 2025.

John was born on November 18, 1958, in New Albany, Indiana to William "Bill" Alexander Thornton and Helen Frances (McAdam) Thornton.

John graduated from Walnut Ridge High School in 1977 and went on to earn his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Business from Saint Leo University.

John spent much of his time as a young adult serving in the United States Navy, dedicating 6 years of his life to his country. Much of his time was spent aboard the USS Dwight D. Eisenhower. Following his time in the Navy, John continued his path of service and became a firefighter working primarily on the west side of Columbus.

John took great pride in the impact that he was able to have on people's lives throughout his career as a firefighter. He was also proud of his Irish heritage.

In his spare time, John enjoyed watching wrestling, especially WWE. He also enjoyed watching movies, history documentaries, and sharing stories with his sons about his time as a firefighter.

John was a great man, who was both witty and noble. He loved to make his family laugh, especially his sons Angel and Anthony. Like all people, John had his struggles in life, and he regretted any pain that he had caused to others as he faced his struggles. He will be forever missed.

John is survived by his two sons Anthony Thornton and Angel Thornton; sisters Cathy (Timothy) Earlenbaugh, Joan (J.R. Berroyer) Thornton, and Julie Thornton; numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews; many beloved cousins; as well as many lifelong friends.

John is preceded in death by his parents William "Bill" Alexander Thornton and Helen Frances (McAdam) Thornton; former wife Krista Thornton; and dear friend and cousin Douglas "Doug" Marchel.

Calling hours will be held from 10 am - 12 pm on Friday October 10, 2025, at the Snyder Rodman Funeral Center in Delaware. A funeral mass will follow at 12:30 pm on Friday October 10, 2025, at St Mary Catholic Church in Delaware.
