Obituary of Jonathan Radcliffe
Jonathan Ivars Radcliffe, 55, of Charleston, South Carolina, passed away September 15, 2022.
He was born to Col. Henry James Macdonald Radcliffe and Evie Schwarting Radcliffe on January 23, 1967 in Bamberg, South Carolina. Jack graduated from Punahou School in 1985, and received a BA in English and Studio Art from Randolph Macon College in 1990. He earned a Masters in Education in 1998 from Charleston Southern University.
Jack is survived by his son, Jackson B Woodward Radcliffe, his wife, Karen Perkins Radcliffe, his mother, Evie Schwarting Radcliffe, his father, Col. Henry James Macdonald Radcliffe (Carole), a sister, Caroline Radcliffe Short, and her children, Anna Short and William Short. He is also survived by his uncle, Gene Schwarting (Phylis) and his aunt, Carol Schwarting Smith. Jack leaves behind his faithful companion (dog), Pete Rose.
Jack was a father, husband, brother, uncle, educator and coach. Each one of his roles was accomplished with great love, sensitivity, and compassion. He was an English teacher and coach at Fort Dorchester High School for over 28 years. While at the Fort, he amassed over 380 victories as the varsity baseball coach. Jack was inducted into the Fort Dorchester Athletic Hall of Fame.
The memorial service will be held on Sunday, September 25, 2022 at 3:00 PM at Bethany United Methodist Church in Summerville. The family will receive friends at 1:30 PM in the Fellowship Hall at Bethany. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Dorchester Paws, 136 Four Paws Lane, Summerville, SC 29483, www.dorchesterpaws.org.
