Joseph Forrest Kagey, 69, of Doraville passed away on Monday, July 14, 2025. Born in Valdosta, Georgia, he was the son of the late, Joan and Donald Kagey.

Forrest lived in Valdosta, Albany, Cartersville, GA, and then moved to Stroudsburg, PA before moving to Kingsport to finish his high school years. He attended King College in Bristol, TN and earned a B.S. in math with a minor in history. He furthered his education at Western Carolina University in Cullowhee, NC and then at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville to obtain a master's degree in mathematics. After his marriage to Connie, he moved to Atlanta, GA and became employed with AT&T and in later years with IBM as a computer analyst.

Forrest's love of sports started at a very early age, and he especially enjoyed baseball and basketball throughout his school years including playing baseball at King College. This led to his hobby of reading all variety of sport books and magazines. He could often recall specific sports trivia and statistics to friends and family. He and his wife became Braves fans. After marriage and moving to Atlanta he became involved with tennis and developed a love of the game including often playing doubles with his wife on mixed doubles teams. He also participated in various men's teams. He participated with Atlanta Tennis Lawn Association and the United States Tennis Association. In his later years, he and Connie took bridge lessons and fell in love with the game and became full time bridge partners and played many games in the local clubs and on-line bridge.

Forrest was typically reserved, but once you became his friend, which was easy to do, he exhibited a different side of his personality. He had all the manners of a gentleman and was a friend to everyone. He respected everyone's opinion. He had a playful manner and wanted to get you to smile.

He and Connie were loving pet parents to one sweet cocker spaniel and four spoiled, beautiful cats over the course of their marriage.

He was a loving and super patient husband who cared deeply for Connie. He was always quick to show Connie how much he loved her by his actions, not just by his words. He will be missed by his loving wife of over 42 years, Connie, and brother, Charles, until they are once again reunited in Heaven with the Lord.

A memorial service celebrating his life will be conducted on Monday, July 21st at 2 o'clock at Crowell Brothers Peachtree Chapel, 5051 Peachtree Industrial Boulevard, Peachtree Corners, GA 30092. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Forrest was one of kindest people I know. His quiet dignity hid a (sometimes) wicked sense of humor that always had a tilt of his head and a small smile as he sent a zinger your way. I will miss him.
