Joe was born on August 23, 1939 in New York, NY to father Joseph Troy and mother Margaret Stafford Troy. The eldest of 3 children, Joe grew up on Academy Street in Inwood and spent summers in Breezy Point, NY. He went to Manhattan Prep after Good Shepherd School and subsequently graduated from St. Joseph's Prep in Barrytown in 1957, eventually becoming a De La Salle Christian Brother. Education and faith always a central focus for him, Joe earned a B.S. in Biology at Catholic University in 1962, as well as his Master's in Education and Doctoral Studies from New York University.
On February 23, 1968, Joe married the love of his life, Maura, had three devoted children and was the true patriarch of his nuclear and extended family. Joe was known for his unconditional kindness and was always there for his family. He loved travel, beach trips and exploring the world with his wife and family.
Always dedicated to making an imprint on students and the importance of education, Joe continued his teaching vocation and love of sports throughout his life and career as Biology teacher and Varsity basketball coach at Pleasantville High School and principal of Briarcliff High School in Westchester County as well as President and Principal at Albertus Magnus High School in Rockland County.
Joe is survived by his beloved wife Maura, his three loving children, son Joe (Beth) Troy of Mamaroneck, NY and daughters Maura (Kevin) Coolican and Ali (Rich) McCartin of Somers, NY. He was a devoted grandfather to grandchildren Kaity, Lauren, and Julia McCartin; Devin, Brianna, and Aidan Coolican; Abby and Dillon Troy; Brendan, Conor and Clare Greaney. Joe is the brother of the late Robert Troy and is survived by his sister Margaret Ann (Tommy) Furer, brother-in-law Walter (Kathy) Sullivan and sister-in-law Cathy Troy along with several loving nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be at Clark Associates Funeral Home, 4 Woods Bridge Road, Katonah, NY on Wednesday, November 9, from 3:00pm to 7:00pm.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Joseph's Church, 95 Plum Brook Road, Somers, NY on Thursday, November 10, at 11:30am.
Interment will be private.

I remember our theology talks as I had one on one time with Mr Troy every week during my senior year at Albertus. He always encouraged the development of my faith and I am truly grateful to him for that. May God's peace be with his family and friends.

I have such fond memories of Principal Troy in Briarcliff. He held you accountable, rightfully so, but you always saw his love and concern for the students first and foremost. I feel lucky to have known him. Rest In Peace and my condolences to all of his loved ones.
